I know it’s been some time since I last shared my tidbits with you. Well, life happens and sometimes you are unable to get things done.
This just reminded me, I have had this novella I am working on hanging in there unfinished for so long..but, I am still optimistic. I hope things will get going soon.
Anyways, I have shared so much of my journey with you so far that I am at a kind of a loss as to where we should begin in this blog or newsletter you may call it.
Well, coming back to the task at hand, I may have mentioned earlier that for my first poetry book, I kind of chose to go with a Vanity publisher.
To the unversed, there are many kinds of publishing, but the ones I know of are Traditional publishing, where you have to submit your manuscript during the open windows that they accept unsolicited manuscripts. And if they find value in your writing they will her back to you with an agreement. Big publishers may even pay you in advance for your royalty. And it’s mostly suggested to use agents to get to them.
Now, secondly, there are Vanity publishers who take money for all the work they do. From publishing your book to marketing it, you need to pay them for all the services. And most people chose it if they don’t want to do self-publishing and need help with cover, marketing, printing etc. They have various packages based on the requirements of the author.
And finally, there are hybrid publishers who work as a combination of traditional and Vanity publishers. These publishers may not charge you to get published but everything else you want is sold as an added package. Like for example you pay for editing, for marketing/ promotions etc.
There are so many options to get published nowadays. You could even do self-publishing if you want. So, just stop procrastinating and start writing. And when it comes time to hit publish, just do your research and go with the option that works for you.
