Panster – a word that entered my dictionary recently. And that’s what I am. There are any who believe that all pansters are hobby writers…WRRoOonGG.
Well, I might be a hobby writer. But, I know that planner or panster, I would still be a hobby writer till I monetize on my writing skills.
And anyone who really believes that their way is the only RIGHT way needs to broaden their horizon. What works for one need not necessarily work for the other.
Some need a plot outline and characterisation outline before they can start writing. But, others like me start putting what we have in our minds on paper and that’s a story shaping out in paper then and there.
Every writer is different. Their methods are different. Trying to generalise them will be like bringing out stories and shaping them in a cookie cutter. We wouldn’t want that.
I do research when it calls for it. But my first and foremost focus is to bring what I have in mind on paper. I might be stuck at points. I might be in a rabbit hole of writing for years. But that works for me. Might not for you.
So, my only advice to writers is don’t listen to what others say. Listen to your heart and mind. Do what works best for you as an individual and as a writer.
