I have talked a lot to you about my journey on writing. But, way before I published anything or maybe even before I started to write something, I have always been an avid reader. Now, there was a time when one would have called me a voracious or ferocious reader as I used to devour books like anything. But, with time and other commitments this has changed. Still, I am an avid reader even now.
My choice of books may seem a bit unpredictable at times. I read across genres, read and enjoy a lot of authors and books. And some among these are highly popular mainstream authors, some lesser known and also a bit of indie published ones thrown in.
I am probably not someone to discuss about the prose and quality of literature because I believe that any book that gets people to read it or engages the reader has done its job beautifully.
It’s not all about classic literature or beauty of prose. And something that has interested people has done its job beautifully. So, it’s definitely a good book even if it’s something that I personally don’t enjoy.
For this very reason I refrain from rating a book as good or bad just becuse I didn’t enjoy it. Book reviews and ratings are always very subjective and there has not been a book that everyone has loved and enjoyed equally.
Being a writer myself I do know the importance of reviews. But, I equally know that rating a book according to personal preference is not right, especially if I am unable to clarify what worked for me or not.
I personally believe that if I haven’t enjoyed a book that does not make a book bad just that I am not the target audience for that book. Someone else would most likely enjoy it better.
